Validating a model

You can use the Validate command to verify that the simulation model is BPMN compliant. Validation can also be used to ensure the BPMN model could be successfully converted to BPEL. If the simulation model was created by importing Visio or XPDL, it is recommended that validation be done prior to transforming the model to BPEL.

At any time when you are designing a business process model, you can use the Validate command to verify that it is compliant with the defined design rules.  There are four different rule profiles defined: BPMN Standard, BPEL 1.1, BPEL 2.0 and Business Process Simulation and each profile contains a list of model constraints for both syntaxes and flows.  After you perform a model validation, the results are displayed in the Problems View. When you double-click the icon for a problem, error, or warning, the relevant modeling elements in the editor are automatically selected.

To validate a model:

  1. Select the editor of the BPMN model.
  2. On the Modeling menu, select Validate.
  3. Select the rule profile
  4. Click OK.
